St. Michael’s Church is Open: We Have a Seat for You

Visit the Home Page of this website for details on Mass times and our “Revised COVID-19 Safety Guidelines in Effect” to help curb the pandemic. However, anyone who is sick, may have been exposed to anyone with COVID-19, or who has a health condition that would endanger themselves or others by being present in church, continues to be dispensed.

St. Michael’s installed a new A/C filtration system and the church is sanitized after every Mass. We practice hand sanitizing, face coverings and safety distancing. Seating is also available outdoors on the lanais and we have lots of space at the 1pm and 4pm Sunday masses.  All mission churches remain closed until further notice. Mahalo!

Parish Ministries Update

Thanksgiving Dinner Outreach

St. Michael’s Parish Outreach Ministry will coordinate 25 Safeway dinners—full dinners with all the fixings—for the Thanksgiving holiday. If you would like to sponsor a dinner, the cost is $80 per dinner. Make checks payable to “St. Michael’s Church”; write Thanksgiving Dinner in the Memo and send to the parish office or drop it in the weekend collection. Payment to Safeway will be made Nov. 21st, so donations must be received by Nov. 19th.

The Sharing Garden

The Sharing Garden production in the 3rd Quarter was disappointing, yielding only 2,387lbs of fruits and vegetables. Our year-to-date total is 11,303 lbs. We attribute this poor result to the extremely wet weather summer months. With the recent drier weather, we are hopeful that production will improve and the hard work of our volunteers will be rewarded with increased yields.

Malama Na Keiki

The Malama Na Keiki (Backpack Program) resumed in Oct. with Holualoa School identifying 42 students (14 families) needing assistance. Our program continues with every other Saturday distribution of dry goods and fresh fruits and vegetables from the Sharing Garden to families for pickup at Immaculate Conception parking lot. The program continues to receive assistance from the Holualoa community, who bring dry goods and vegetables from their ga-dens for our distribution. We want to give a special mahalo to Sundog Bakery for providing 25 loaves of fresh-baked sourdough bread.

Food Pantry & Diaper Drive

Because the number of families requesting aid has rebounded to pandemic levels, we are resuming our monthly Food Drives on the last Monday of each month. Bring donations to Immaculate Conception Church. Or you can leave donations in the baskets at the back of St. Michael’s Church. Contributions of Spam and canned veggies are especially needed.

The Food Pantry distribution is 9-9:45am on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month at Immaculate Conception parking lot and we need volunteers 8-10 am. If you are interested, please contact Bill Culhane at 339-7470 or [email protected]

Diaper Drive: Support for the Diaper ministry continues and the needs are constant. Sizes needed this month are again Newborn and Size 4.

Did You Know About Free Catholic Laudate App?

The most popular and most comprehensive free Catholic App. Laudate includes many awesome resources such as an interactive Rosary, Daily Readings, the Liturgy of the Hours, the Roman Missal changes, and the NAB and Douay-Rheims versions of the bible – all in a simple to navigate layout. But what makes this app shine for me is the HUGE selection of prayers – in both Latin and English!

They are sorted into intuitive groups such as the “Marian Group” and “Mass Group” and you can even create your own folder of “My Prayers” to easily access your favorites. The font size and color scheme are customizable, and there are six language options. The developers are also constantly updating this app, providing a huge selection of up to date, bug-free content.

You can download for free to your iPhone, android and/or iPad. Just search in your app store.

Prayer List

If you know someone in need of prayers, we can place them on the Prayer List. All information is confidential. Part of what the Charismatic Prayer Group does on Tuesday evenings when they gather, is pray for those on the Prayer List. Contact the parish office before the end of the month to add a name to the list.
