Food Pantry Ministry ~ Please Kokua!
This ministry distributes food at the Immaculate Conception parking lot from 9-9:45 a.m. on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. Fresh produce from our Sharing Garden and non-perishables are provided to all who ask. Volunteers also sort and prepackage at 9am on the Thursday morning before each distribution. One to five hours of service per month are requested of volunteers. Please join us! Due to a recent change in USDA policy, we will be receiving less food from the Hawaii Food Basket for at least the next six months, This means we will depend more on our parishioner donations. Please consider making a food donationin the baskets at the back of the church when you come to Mass. We need canned vegetables, spam, and pasta sauce. Mahalo for your continued support of this important ministry devoted to help our neighbors who need it the most!
Meals That Heal Ministry
Dedicated volunteers prepare and deliver meals to those who are temporarily homebound or ill. This ministry is for those who will need a little extra assistance following surgery, someone who is undergoing medical treatment or someone who has just had a baby, etc. Often family and friends are able to help for a short time but our volunteers help to supplement that assistance by providing meals a few times a week for up to two months. Our goal is to help alleviate any extra stress on families during these times. It is a very beautiful way to let our Parish family know that we are thinking of them and praying for them. It is one small thing that we can do to show that we care. Please contact Cheryl Roderer at [email protected] com or call the parish office to join as a volunteer or to give us the name of a family who could benefit from this ministry.
Sharing Garden Ministry
The Sharing Garden donated 3,240 pounds of fruits and vegetables in the 3rd Quarter of 2022, which was distributed to Ulu Wini, St Michael’s Food Pantry and Malama Na Keiki. We also received donations of citrus and pumpkins (squash) from our volunteers’ personal gardens that significantly contributed to our totals this quarter. The team is looking forward to the return of our “winter to spring” parishioners who provide much needed volunteer hours; however, we are always looking for more volunteers to join us to take care of our sharing garden which is equal to the size of a football field. If you enjoy gardening, please consider joining our Sharing Garden Ministry. Volunteers are needed for 2 hours or more per week.
Malama Ná Keiki Ministry
“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink …” (Matthew 25:35). This ministry to supply supplemental healthy meals to school children is done in collaboration with Holualoa Elementary School for children acknowledged by the school as food insecure. Volunteers shop for and pack food that is distributed on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month. This enables children to have food for the weekend when free school lunch is not available to them. We are currently serving almost 40 keiki. Volunteers are needed on the 1st and 3rd Thursday mornings and the 1st and 3rd Saturday mornings of each month to assemble and distribute bags. If you are interested in serving with this ministry, please contact the parish office.
Way of the Cross for an End to Trafficking on Wednesdays
Each Wednesday at noon, we pray the Stations of the Cross at St. Michael’s for the safety of all those who are held captive by traffickers for either sex or agricultural work and usually have no way of escaping the status of slavery. The prayers were developed by Bishop Silva and require about twenty minutes of your time. Please join us!
